Blog #27

similar to last week, I have been in the workflow of color correcting and comping fog into shots as some of my team members render them out from maya. I have built up nodes in nuke for the blue sky, red sky, and music hall scenes so all I have to do is import the AOVs, Beauty pass, and hair exrs into my nuke scene. I encounter some challenges such as the AOVs having a hard time appearing or taking up the entire screen, to combat this, I use a rotoscope node and grade nodes to section off the AOVs (fog) and adjust the thickness. Some other challenges that I have encountered have been the hair renders not lining up with the main render scene. When this happens, I try to manually adjust the time with a time offset node. Sometimes it's just the render, so then the hair needs to be re-rendered out. This whole process was difficult to get in the beginning, but I am getting in the flow of it. The process is mainly just time consuming.

The polish of our shots doesn't end in nuke, the exrs are put into After Effects and edited to add more depth of field and do a final shift of color adjustments. We have a handful of shots that are completely finalized and incorporated into the film edit.

I have also been working with our audio compositor. We were able to get a first pass of all our music in and should hopefully be in for our final production pass. There needs to be quite a bit of edits made, but we are in a great place so far.

Here are some examples from nuke of our corrected renders:
