Blog Post #12

Since my last blog post, I have been continuing to work on the Madam Gator textures. I have been working in substance painter and designer to try and create custom scales and skin to match the textures of Elias and Theo.

Working on the textures has been pretty difficult to be honest, I have had to go through a lot of trial and error with substance designer and still have a lot of work ahead of me. I was able to get a first pass of Madam Gator's textures to my team and have a lot of notes that I need to revise. Here is what the Madam Gator first pass was looking like: I was missing a lot of depth in her skin texture and needed to add a little more detail overall.

On Tuesday I worked with my group to adjust her skin texture and here was the result of that, adding in levels helped to darken the shadows that I painted on:

After this pass of Madam Gator, my group wanted more revisions to be done. We want to see how it would look if the scales appeared all over instead of just patches so I have a lot of work left ahead of me. An issue that I am running into with substance designer is the tiling of my scales, they cannot go all over the mesh without showing seams:

I need to keep working to figure out why that is happening!

Overall, a rough pass of Madam Gator is completed and will be plugged into the published file so the animators can work with a textured model. However, I will be continuing to polish the textures while I am working on other assets. My next model I need to work on is the fiddle and I am excited to see how I approach the textures for that!
