Blog post #22

It has been a steady past week; I have been working on finishing up the final touches on Madam Gator's dress, working with the musicians on music changes, and creating the "Gumbo Duel" pamphlet that the boys have right before the title card.

Here is the final dress in substance painter:

This was the character design created by Loris that I referenced the 3D textures off of. I tried to make a soft fabric, but using a bunch of different fill layers and texture maps. I might go in and make a few different color changes and add a few shadows but overall, I am super happy with how this turned out!

The music progress for the film is going great so far as well, our pianist shared a brand-new original composition for the opening song, and everyone loved it! We are waiting to hear a new recording of it incorporating the trumpet, but the plan is to replace the original temp song we had with the new music! So far, our timeline is to hopefully have all music recorded and ready for audio compositing by march.

Lastly, I am working on finishing up the Gumbo Duel pamphlet. We got notes from the screening that it was difficult to read. My goal for the new design is to stay true to 1920's advertisements/posters but also make it legible for the audience to read for a few seconds. This means I will use simplified and bold colors with large lettering and minimal illustrations. I believe that the art style during the time that our film is set was art deco, so I have been looking up art deco advertisements as inspiration.
