Blog Post #5

This past week has been a crazy one for me, not only for this class, but also in my other courses. I finished up the concept revisions on Monday and so I was finally able to begin modeling. I wrote in an earlier blog post that I was nervous to start modeling, and these nerves are slowly starting to go away. I haven't worked on hard surface modeling since the first semester of sophomore year, and let's just say, I shed a lot of tears over a few projects. Nevertheless, I really wanted to grow in my modeling skills and so I offered to work on some for Gumbo. My first model is Elias's Boat which I also worked on concepting.

Here is the in progress of the boat so far. I will hopefully be fully finished with it this Saturday or Sunday night. I am working on adding the seats into the boat and I am struggling with some pulling and distortion around the shape. I have been spending a lot of time trouble shooting this.

You are able to see some of the pulling here
Once I figure this out, the model is pretty much complete, and I will be set to move onto Elias's main fiddle. I have already been having dreams about how I will manage to create the "s" shape that appears in the wood of the violin.
As of now I am feeling better about my modeling skills. I was rusty at the beginning of the week, and it took me a few days to get into gear. I am worried that people won't think my modeling skills are good enough for the project, but that is just an insecurity of mine. I know that if I run into trouble my team members will help!
Also here are my final concepts I worked on Monday:
